Nate Sjogren

Confirmation

Welcome to Katholikos!!

Hello! My name is Nate Sjogren (that’s pronounced like “sugar-in”). I’m 21 years old as of this October 2009. Along with my team members, I attend John Paul the Great Catholic University as a sophomore majoring in Entertainment Media–specifically, Catholic Media! I embarked on my video production adventure at the age of 16 when I entered high school. My main influence and older brother Casey Sjogren was the MAN at producing videos with his artistically skilled eye and passion for film. As his younger brother, I was immediately eager to jump in and study under him to learn everything he knew. My interest began to advance without delay, and I was soon experimenting and developing my own passion for film. Throughout high school I began to study film and experiment with cameras and editing systems, creating videos for church and school. After Casey graduated from high school—when I began as a freshman—I stepped in and took his spot, passionately attempting to fill his shoes not knowing what God had in store the entire time, through every single video.

The purpose for all of my passion for film production, however, wasn’t quite polished. I was hit with questions like: Should I dedicate my whole post-high-school schooling towards film? What are the chances of having a successful career in this field? Am I good enough? What about keeping a strong Christian faith through college? These questions plagued my mind to the point that I had no idea what on Earth I wanted to do or what God was calling me to do… That was until I heard about John Paul the Great Catholic University. Upon application and entrance to this school, I embarked on a completely new level of adventure through film study—and in my Christian faith. In attending JPCU, I discovered Catholicism.

I was forever changed.

My questions about keeping God in my life, studying film, and how both of these would be brought together were answered. Attending JPCU was a mere foreshadowing in comparison to my Confirmation into the Catholic Church on this Easter of 2009. Through my conversion, I grew the greatest passion I’ve ever felt—even surpassing that of film—and that was for the Catholic faith. I am convinced that my purpose in life is to combine my passion and talent in film making to proclaim the Truth of the Catholic Church. Without God and His Church, I would have no passion or talent for video production, nor could I even have a conviction to proclaim the Truth. I owe all that I have to God, including my career choice.

Katholikos and its team members are answers to my prayers in a way I never could have planned better. I hope that someday our company can influence the lives of those around us (the Church community, future Catechumens, non-Catholics, and non-Christians all), and that is our personal goal.
