Eberto Mireles, Brother in Law of Joe B. Cortinaz

This afternoon I received very sad news from Brother Joe B. Cortinaz. His Brother in Law’s body functions shut down and the doctors could not get him to respond to medication. Eberto Mireles, age 48, went to the Lord today. He leaves his wife and two daughters, ages 12 and 10. Joe asks that we pray for the whole family and particularly for the repose of the soul of Eberto.

No arrangements were made at the time Joe called. The family of the deceased lives in Harlingen. When I receive additional information, I will let you know.

Joe Cortinaz Brother in Law

I received a phone call from Brother Joe B. Cortinaz today stating that his Brother In Law, Eberto Mireles who is only 48 years of age has suddenly become seriously ill. He is hospitalized and currently is not responding to medication. Problem has not yet been fully diagnosed but Joe says kidneys have shut down. Eberto is married and has a family of young children. (I did not get ages of children).

Joe B. and his wife have departed to be with family in the Harlingen area. Joe is one of my assistants. He is in charge of the Tootsie Roll fund raiser and other matters that I have assigned to him.

He asks for our prayers for his Brother in law and his family.

I will add information as it becomes known.

Pray the Rosary for Joe’s Brother in Law and family.

District Deputy Richard Gonzales

As of a visit to Richard Gonzales at Wilford Hall early Sunday afternoon he looks good and has a very good attitude. He thanks everyone for prayers stating that he could actually feel the power of prayer. He is hungry since he has been nourished through an IV since surgery on this past Friday. Says he may be allowed to eat jello on Monday. He loves to talk about Knights of Columbus activities. This visitor planned to spend ten minutes with him but extended it to 45. He asks that we continue to pray for him. Sam Szalwinski

PGK and Former DD Nat Chavez

Good Afternoon my brothers in Christ and fellow Knights:

I don’t know if you are aware of this or not but our brother Nat Chavez is under going some challenging medical problems.

Essentially he is having to see a Neurosurgeon and a growth has been detected near one of the stent sites in the cerebral area of his brain. He has been having some headaches that at times are almost unbearable.

Please note that Nat’s faith has been challenged and tested by the recent course of medical events however his faith is as strong if not stronger than before.

Please include not only brother Nat in your prayers but also include his family.

He is scheduled to go back to see the neurosurgeon in a week and he will let him know what can or can’t be done.

Once again the power of prayer is one of the most powerful medicines that any person can ever receive.

Pass the word about Brother Nat and I will try to keep you all informed as to the prognosis of Nat’s situation.

God Bless you all and I hope to have some wonderful news regarding Nat in a week or so.

Your Brother in Christ. God is good all of the time.

Larry Cleary (Former District Deputy)

I find this a little difficult because I am not used to asking for help for myself. A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with cancer. Yeah, it still kinda makes me step back too. It’s in my prostate and it was a blessing that it was found cause nobody was looking for it; some might call it a fluke; I know better. Beth and I have done our homework and are confident that the best course of action for me is to have the prostate removed surgically. Robitically no less. Welcome to 2008.

We have confidence in my doctors and surgeon and, of course, know that Jesus will be with us as always. The surgery will be on Aug 4. I would very much appreciate any and all prayers for me, my wife, and my doctors. I am very much looking forward to getting this behind me and start the healing process.

Thanks Bro. God Bless.

Larry
