Books
I am now in the process of putting my story to the written page. This is the third time I’ve begun this process. This time I’m asking for your assistance. Can you offer some questions to help me? What I mean is . . . . well let me explain my reason for writing the book.
When I was searching through history, reading volumes of theological, historical, biblical, and even pagan texts, I was doing so very much alone. At the time, I felt as though I could talk to no one. I had nobody to turn to. Nobody was out there that I could look at them and say, “See that guy gets what I’m going through.” There were similar stories out there and I did find common ground with Steve Ray and Mark Shea. However, there just wasn’t somebody in my shoes. People were from different theological and ecclesiological backgrounds. Many had advanced degrees or professional training that gave them financial support/possibilities outside of full time ministry. Where was the guy with small children who stood to lose everything? What did he do? How did he do it? What was going on in his heart? How did God take care of him? I found nothing.
I vowed to myself once I became Catholic that I would do anything I could to help people in their search because I knew what it was like to feel alone and helpless. That’s where my blogs originated. Now I want something more. I want to create a resource that I can put in somebody’s hand and say, “Here, this is how God got me through this” or “This is the account of my search. Maybe you’ll find something to help you.” Now, this is where I ask for your help.
I want you to suggest to me questions that I can answer in my story. I don’t mean “Why do Catholics worship Mary?” questions (btw, the answer is “We don’t”). I mean, converts and seekers especially help me here, what sort of questions did you or are you wrestling with when it comes to following Christ? Are there particular concerns you had/have about the Catholic Church? Are there practical things you just want to hear about from a fellow seeker? I have my own ideas and the questions I needed answers for, but I want to hear from you.
