This Week with Incarnation Teens

Posted on June 27th, 2008 in Incarnation Teens by Derek Rotty

Dear Teens and Parents,

Finally, I am able to update the blog so that you know what's happening this week!

Weekly Scripture and Devotion

2 Timothy 4:8

From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.

What is this "crown of righteousness" of which St. Paul wrote?  What does it mean to long for the Lord's appearance?  It's quite simple, really.  The "crown" is sainthood, and to achieve sainthood, we must all transform our lives…become HOLY!

Think about a time when you really…really…wanted something: maybe a championship in sports; maybe an award for a school club; maybe an 'A' on a test.  Did that thing require a lot of extra, hard work?  Were you able to do the bare minimum and still achieve that goal?  The same principle applies to our life of faith: we will only become saints if we work REALLY HARD at becoming holy!  (You should all attend a youth ministry gathering or a retreat to find out what type of work that requires.)

What's On the Calendar?

Softball Practice: Saturday, June 28 @ 1pm (Baseball Field)

Softball Game: Monday, June 30 @ 5:40pm (Meet @ St. Louis Church @ 5:15pm)

Other Stuff

Have a happy Fourth of July!  Don't get burned with fireworks!

God bless

8As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord the just judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love his coming. Make haste to come to me quickly.

SCRIPTURE AND DEVOTION OF THE WEEK

Romans 4:20-21

He [Abraham] did not doubt God's promise in unbelief; rather, he was empowered by faith and gave glory to God and was fully convinced that what he had promised he was also able to do.

How many times throughout our lives have we doubted God?  How many times have we thought that He hasn't answered our prayers?  How often have we been impatient with God while He does His work?

God has made a promise to us: He will save us from our lives of sin.  In fact, He's already done it; we just have to accept His love and His law.  Do you believe that?  Do you have as much faith as Abraham?

This week, try to find some time to talk to God about your doubts.  Ask Him to show you just how much He loves you and wants to be with you.

ON THE CALENDAR THIS WEEK

Holy Mitts Softball Practice: Saturday, June 7 @ 1 P.M. (Bring your glove and something to drink!)

The Catholic Classics Movie Series: Wednesday, June 11 (Watching Prince Caspian at the C'ville Cinema); call or email for the exact time.

As this week comes to a close, I want everyone to know that I have decided pursue a career as a Motown hits cover singer!  I will be singing great songs from the Temptations and Diana Ross!  He he!

God bless!

Yes, my friends, the Catholic Classics Movie Series is back!  It all begins tonight at 6pm, and you don't want to miss all the fun!

Tonight is the first of six movie nights.  Each Wednesday, we'll gather for open gym time followed by a great Catholic film.  Bring a chair and a snack so you'll be comfortable and full while the move shows on the BIG SCREEN!

There is one exception: next week, we won't be watching our movie here at the parish.  We'll be going to the Collierville Cinema to view Prince Caspian, and it's going to be…wait for it…AWESOME!!!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email or call.  Just click here for all of my info.

God bless!

Teens E-News for April 24

SCRIPTURE AND DEVOTION FOR THE WEEK

1 Peter 3:15

“…sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts.  Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who askes you for a reason for your hope.”

When Christ is the Lord of our lives, we have hope as never before.  In fact, we have so much hope that we want to go and tell others and lead them to Him.  Are you filled with that much hope?  Do you tell other people about Jesus?  This coming week, let’s all try to be better witnesses for Christ, and bring His hope to other people.

WHAT’S GOING ON THIS WEEK?

Incarnation Teens Softball Practice (Saturday, April 26; 1 to 3pm; Baseball Field)

Incarnation Teens ENCOUNTER (Wednesday, April 30; 7:15pm; HFLC Gym; Open Gym @ 6:30; ALL 8TH GRADE PRE STUDENTS ARE WELCOME)

WHAT’S NEW?

Have you taken the youth ministry schedule survey?  If not, take a moment to send an email to Derek answering two questions.  1) Would you prefer the Incarnation Teens ENCOUNTER sessions to be held on Sunday evenings or Wednesday evenings?  2) Why?

FUNNY STORY!

Last night at ENCOUNTER, several hysterical skits were performed based on the Scriptural account of Pentecost, during which time the groups had to use props given to them.  One image stands out in my mind.  A young man wearing a pink and purple “My Little Pony” backpack shouting things in German!
