The Apostolate
In A.D. 410, St. Augustine of Hippo penned his famous treatise, City of God. In that blessed work, the great Doctor of the Church recognized that two cities had been, and were being, built in the world. One City, the City of Man, was based on self-love and pride. The other city, which was built on self-less love and virtue, he named the City of God. For sixteen ensuing centuries, those two cities have struggled against each other for the allegiances of human hearts, and that struggle has been born into the 21st century. Therefore, the challenge of the children of God is to continue the necessary and beautiful task of building the City of God!
In 2003, Derek Rotty began a diligent search for Truth after falling away from organized religion and falling into the lifestyle of a college-aged intellectual fraternity member. That search led him on a winding path: through the rejection of any necessary religion, through liberal Christianity, and into the Catholic Church. In 2004, Derek was received into the full communion of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church, under the patronage of St. Augustine of Hippo. Since that time, he has set out to build the City of God in this modern world.
In an effort to bring Truth to others, Derek has served in parish ministry since coming home to the Church. He served as a catechist, group leader, and sponsor for the RCIA team; later was blessed to join the parish staff as the full-time youth ministries coordinator; and continued to develop class series for adults. As a minister and catechist, his gifts have been directed toward teaching a variety of topics, but his specialties are liturgy and worship, Catholic Church history, morality, and prayer.
This new apostolate is dedicated to faith formation for youth and adults. Derek loves the Catholic Church and wants to spread the Good News to any person who will listen, no matter their age. Specifically, this apostolate is dedicated to ensuring that youth ministers have every opportunity to learn more about their own faith; and the necessary tools to pass on the Catholic faith to youth in the modern world. No youth or youth minister should be denied the wonderful gifts that God has in store for those who seek Him!
When he is not working in parish ministry and building this apostolate, Derek has an alter-ego: family man! He spends time with his wife, Khira, and their son, Gabriel, both of whom happen to be his favorite people in the whole world. To relax, he reads, writes, cooks, drinks wine, and watches sports. His ultimate goal in life, besides getting to Heaven, is to become the first man to actually dig a hole deep enough to reach China. Really, he's an average guy who is trying to become holy.
The success of this apostolate depends, first and foremost, on the grace of God, the guidance of the Holy Spirit, constant prayer, and dedication on the part of its founder. Secondly, the success of the apostolate depends on people seeking out its benefits. If a parish or diocese is in need of evangelization and/or catechesis for youth and/or adults, this apostolate has something to offer! Please prayerfully consider using these services.
