Wife of the Century?
Posted by bob on 23rd May 2008
What qualifies for wife of the century? Yesterday my wife and I purchased our first Harley Davidson motorcycle. Most wife’s shutter at the thought of their man riding a bike on the road today. And yes, it can be dangerous. There are many things one must do in order to try and be as safe as possible. I don’t recommend that everyone run right out and buy one as it may not be the best for you.
However, for us it made sense. I’ll be commuting to work on my new HOG!!!

Now men, let me say this. My wife is amazing and I love her a lot. She truly gives her life for her family. Our house is welcoming, our children are loved, we have a great marriage, and she is always willing to serve others in need.
But what truly makes the wife of the century? Does my wife supporting the Harley (which is a childhood dream for the record) improve her chances for wife of the century?
To be honest, no…
My wife already possesses the necessary characteristics for wife of the century. The fact that she allowed and supported the most awesome purchase of a vehicle in the history of man kind, doesn’t improve her chances. What I’m getting at is this. A lot of guys have said since we got the bike, “Dude your wife is the coolest!!!” And yes I agree, my wife is the coolest (she is My wife….). But does “what” she allows me to purchase or enjoy, change “who” she is and more importantly “who” we are as One in Christ?
Men, do we judge our wife’s goodness by how “free” we are? Because in my view, “free” according to societies rules, i.e. “I can do what I want when I want”, is a lie. The order of humanity and the natural moral law set forth by God is a necessary component to living in harmony with God’s plan.
Again, it is not “what” we own, but “who” we are. I’m not a smelly cross-country biker stereotype……..most days. And my wife isn’t the wife of the century because she let me get a Harley. She has been wife of the century to me since I said, “I do.”
If you wife, the wife of your century? I challenge us all to renew the vows pledged in marriage and to Cherish our wife’s in sickness and in health, for richer or for poor, all the days of our lives.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
